Skincare glossary
Retinoids
An umbrella term for vitamin A derivatives (retinol, retinal, and prescription tretinoin) that work in the same direction but differ in strength.
- Who it suits
- Anyone building tolerance up from retinol toward something stronger.
Why are retinoids used?
If a product lists a “retinoid” rather than plain retinol, it's aiming for a stronger effect on cell turnover and collagen than retinol alone.
Worth knowing
The “best” retinoid isn't the strongest one. It's the one your skin can actually use consistently without irritation.
