Why are humectants used?
This is the category doing the actual water-pulling in your hydrating products: glycerin and hyaluronic acid are the two you'll see most.
Worth knowing
Humectants are only one part of hydration. Pair them with emollients (which soften) and occlusives (which seal moisture in). Pull water in, soften, then seal.
